Terms of Service

The short version
LeafLovers is a plant care app. Use it to track your plants, get care reminders, and keep your green friends happy. Be respectful, don't abuse the service, and enjoy your plants.
1. Acceptance of terms
By creating an account or using LeafLovers ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service. We may update these terms from time to time — continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms.
2. The service
LeafLovers provides:
- Plant tracking and care scheduling
- Watering, fertilizing, and repotting reminders
- Growth journals with photos and notes
- Care guides and educational blog content
- Push notifications for care reminders (opt-in)
- Data export in JSON and CSV formats
Some features may be designated as "Premium" and require a paid subscription. Free features include unlimited plants, all reminders, care guides, and data export.
3. Your account
- You must provide a valid email address and create a password
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account
- One person per account — accounts are not transferable
- You are responsible for all activity under your account
4. Your content
You retain full ownership of everything you add to LeafLovers — your plant data, photos, notes, and journal entries. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your content.
By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to:
- Store and display your content back to you within the app
- Process your data as needed to provide the Service (e.g., calculating care schedules)
- Create backups to protect against data loss
This license exists only to operate the Service. We will never use your content for advertising, sell it, or share it with third parties beyond what's described in our Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Upload malicious files, viruses, or harmful content
- Attempt to access other users' accounts or data
- Abuse the AI features (e.g., excessive automated requests)
- Scrape, crawl, or harvest data from the Service
- Use the Service to send spam or unsolicited messages
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service's infrastructure
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these guidelines.
6. AI features
LeafLovers includes AI-powered features (such as AI Import) provided through third-party AI services. When you use these features:
- Your input text is sent to OpenAI's API for processing
- AI outputs are suggestions, not guarantees — always verify important care advice
- AI usage is rate-limited to ensure fair access for all users
- We are not responsible for actions taken based on AI-generated suggestions
7. Plant care disclaimer
LeafLovers is a tracking and reminder tool, not a professional horticultural service.
- Care schedules and advice are general guidelines, not professional recommendations
- Plant health can depend on many factors beyond what the app tracks
- Pet and child toxicity warnings are informational — always consult a vet or doctor in emergencies
- We are not liable for plant health outcomes, including plant loss
8. Premium features and billing
Premium features are offered via subscription. Details:
- Pricing is displayed before you subscribe
- You can cancel your subscription at any time
- Upon cancellation, Premium features remain active until the end of your billing period
- Free plan features are never removed — your plants, data, and reminders remain fully functional
- If you request cancellation, your subscription will not renew at the next billing cycle. No further charges will be made
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details

9. Right of withdrawal (EU consumers)
Under EU consumer law, you have the right to withdraw from a distance purchase within 14 days without giving a reason.
- For Premium subscriptions: you may withdraw within 14 days of subscribing. If you have already used Premium features during this period, the withdrawal right applies to the unused portion only
- For AI-powered features (Plant Doctor, Plant Identification, Toxic Scanner, AI Import): once an AI request has been processed and a response delivered, that individual service has been fully performed and is non-refundable
- For Founding Member lifetime purchases: you may withdraw within 14 days of purchase. After 14 days, the purchase is final
- To exercise your withdrawal right, email us at hello@leaflovers.app with your account email and we will process your request promptly
10. Data and portability
- You can export all your data at any time from Settings (JSON or CSV)
- You can delete individual plants, which permanently removes all associated data
- You can request full account deletion by contacting us
- We will process deletion requests within 30 days
11. Service availability
- We aim to keep LeafLovers available 24/7, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access
- We may perform maintenance that temporarily affects availability
- We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue features with reasonable notice
- If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will provide at least 30 days notice and a way to export your data
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, LeafLovers and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or €50, whichever is greater.
13. Changes to terms
We may update these terms as the Service evolves. For significant changes, we'll notify you through the app at least 14 days before they take effect. Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Portugal and applicable EU consumer protection regulations. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Portugal.
15. Consumer disputes
If you are not satisfied with how we handle a complaint, you have the right to use an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) service. The relevant entity for consumer disputes in Portugal is:
